Greater Ballarat

Building Description

Ballarat’s redeveloped Mars Stadium is Australia’s leading regional sports stadium. This $21.9 million multipurpose facility, formerly known as Eureka Stadium, is designed to host a variety of outdoor sports, concerts, and events. The outdoor stadium features AFL-standard match-day facilities, including four 37-metre-tall, 300-lux light towers, a 50-square-metre electronic video scoreboard, minor change room upgrades, and new coaches’ boxes and media facilities. Mars Stadium was officially unveiled on 19 August 2017, in time to play host to the first bounce of AFL in Ballarat, when the Western Bulldogs played Port Adelaide in Round 22 of the 2017 season, in front of a capacity crowd. The ground is home to the North Ballarat Football Club, known as The Roosters, the Greater Western Victoria Rebels, and the North Ballarat City Football and Netball Club. The stadium has been designed to showcase a wide range of events, and in 2018 it will also welcome back AFL. As a home away-from-home for the Western Bulldogs, the 2016 AFL Premiership team will return for games in 2018. Mars Stadium is also preparing to host even more AFL next year, including JLT preseason and AFL Women’s.
